Medical Assisting Diploma

Medical Assisting Diploma program is designed to prepare the graduate for employment in the    rapidly expanding field of Medical Assisting.  In addition, the graduate is prepared to   successfully meet the eligibility criteria to apply for the national certification process through the American Association of Medical Assistants and become a Registered Medical Assistant. The complexity of a modern medical practice requires skilled individuals competent in both clinical and administrative duties. 

The medical clinical job performances of medical assistants include preparing patients for examinations and treatments, taking vital signs and medical histories, sterilizing instruments, performing basic laboratory procedures, and assisting the physician with examinations.  

The business administrative job performances include scheduling and receiving patients, obtaining patient data, establishing and maintaining confidential medical records, billing and coding processes, handling telephone calls, preparing correspondence and reports, purchasing supplies and maintaining equipment, and assuming responsibility for the daily office business.   

 

Graduates are prepared to move into a multidisciplinary healthcare setting.   In addition, this program provides training for required skills in all areas of employment, and provides students with an overview of complementary/holistic methods to be aware of current trends.  Graduates will possess the necessary skills to maintain a career in a medical setting.
